CUTTACK: Mosquito menace is nothing new for Millennium city but over the past fortnight the issue has reached the unbearable level.

Residents have alleged that the problem has turned acute due to negligence and lackadaisical attitude of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) authorities. People have alleged that drains across the city are filled with garbage while fogging is not being done properly as a result of which mosquitoes’ population is growing sharply in th city.

“Mosquito menace has reached its peak owing to lack of fogging and application of anti-larva oil in the drains. Despite several complaints, the CMC authorities are doing nothing to deal with the problem,” alleged Sukant Das, a resident of CDA locality.

Citizens fear that infectins due to mosquitoes will lead to outbreak of dengue and malaria. “Cuttack is prone to dengue and malaria but it seems the civic body has turned blind eye towards the problem. It will rise from its deep slumber after outbreak of dengue in the city,” said Jyoti Prakash Das, a social worker.
